A pair of wooden bookends, each a plain panel with a rounded arch top, standing on a thin dark metal plate that slides under the first book. The weight of the books holds them in place, so there's nothing to screw down.

Walnut is dark and warm, beech is pale and light. The small size is 5.1 inches tall and 3.1 inches wide and suits paperbacks on a desk. The large is 6.7 inches tall and 4.7 inches wide and holds hardbacks on a shelf. Both base plates are 4.1 inches deep.

They're measured by hand, so allow about 0.1 inch either way. Wood grain and tone vary slightly from pair to pair. Books and vases in the photos are not included. Free shipping within the US.

Will they hold heavy books?

They work by weight: the plate slides under the first book, and the books on top keep the bookend standing. The large size, at 6.7 inches tall, is the one for hardbacks. With only one or two light books on the plate they can tip, so give each end a few books to stand on.

Keep them out of strong direct sun if you want the walnut or beech to keep its tone, and away from damp spots like a bathroom windowsill.
