Pick the wood that matches your room
Both finishes come with the same brass tone arm. The difference is how dark the wood reads against your wall.
Walnut
Deep brown with a red undertone. It reads as a dark object against a light wall, which is what you want if your wall is white or cream and you like some contrast.
Sits well with walnut or oak furniture, dark leather, warm white walls.
Ash
Pale and blond with a straight grain. It sits quietly against light walls and keeps a small room feeling open instead of busy.

Measurements
How far it reaches, and how much wall it takes

Bell shade
Tapered and closed at the top. The shallower of the two.
Round shade
Open at the top and the bottom, and 2.4 in taller than the bell.
Mounting height
A common bedside height puts the bottom of the shade around 20 to 24 in above the mattress. Check that the pull chain still hangs where you can reach it from lying down.
Before you order
Tape the backplate outline, 5.9 by 3.5 in, onto the wall and mark 20 in out from it. That shows you exactly how far the arm will stick into the room.
Both drawings are to the same scale, so you can compare them directly. The arm swings, so 20.1 in is the full reach and not a fixed position.
Installation
Hardwired, and usually up within the hour
This sconce wires into a wall box the same way any standard hardwired fixture does. The mounting hardware is in the box.
Cut the power
Switch off the breaker for that circuit and check the wires in the box with a tester before you touch anything.
Mount the bracket
The included bracket screws onto the wall box. The wood backplate covers it once the fixture is on.
Connect the wires
Match the fixture wires to the wires in the box, hot to hot, neutral to neutral, ground to ground, then tuck them back in.
Fit the plate and the bulb
Slide the backplate over the bracket, tighten it, screw in the E26 bulb and pull the chain.
If there is no wall box where you want the lamp, an electrician can add one. That is the only part of this job that needs a pro. Indoor use only, 110 to 120V, 40W maximum.

What buyers ask before they order this one
Do I need an electrician to install it?
Not always. It wires into a standard wall box the way any hardwired fixture does, so if you have swapped a light fixture before, you can do this one. If there is no box where you want the lamp, or you would rather not work inside the box, have an electrician handle that part.
Is there a plug-in version with a cord?
No. This sconce is hardwired only. There is no cord and no plug in the box.
Bell or Round, which one should I pick?
Bell if you read under it. It closes off the top and drops a tight pool of light on the page. Round if you want a softer corner light, because it is open at the top and the bottom and spills light up the wall as well.
How far does it stick out from the wall?
The arm is 20.1 in (51 cm) and it pivots, so you can pull it out over a nightstand or fold it back closer to the wall when you are not using it.
Can I put it on a dimmer?
No. The pull chain is on and off only, so a dimmer on the circuit will not change the brightness.
